Access for all abilities Project

A need was identified to create more opportunities for people with disabilities in canoeing.  Funding was sourced through the Access for All Abilities Initiative fund to look at building inclusive practices at the recreational club level.

Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) supports the development of sport and recreation that is inclusive of people with a disability.  In particular its Access for All Abilities (AAA) Program supports a network of AAA providers throughout Victoria.  Their role is to advise and support sport and recreation clubs and community groups on access for and inclusion of people with a disability.  Please see Resource Manual for contacts and email links to AAA providers throughout Victoria.

Canoeing Victoria through its Access for All Abililites project organised an Information session for Clubs and disability service providers.  This provided an opportunity to link poeple with similar ideas and interests.

A Basic Skills day took place at Westfolds Part in November which included all Stroke techniques, a capsize and a river trip.  This was a fantastic experience for people planning further paddling and for some who had not been paddling for years.  Click here for more details and some pictures of the day.
