After a week of wild and windy weather, Geelong turned on the sunshine and calmer conditions yesterday as seventy five masters athletes and their supporters from around Australia and scores of dedicated canoeing volunteers gathered for three days of canoe marathon and sprint racing on the Barwon River.
Day 1 (Saturday 5 October) saw the endurance athletes racing in the marathon singles event. The competition was on as athletes raced over distances from 12km to 20km.
Day 2 (Sunday 6 October) saw fierce competition in some classes as athletes turned on the speed over the 200m sprint racing course.
Stay tuned for Day 3 (Monday 7 October) as athletes once again take on the endurance side of our sport with the marathon doubles events.
