This year the Canoeing Victoria Strategic Forum with be themed “Parks and Paddlers” and will focus on the relationship between our clubs and Parks Victoria, specifically in areas such as applying for event permits and water access.
Our paddlers enjoy experiencing a range of waterways and parklands across the state which are managed by Parks Victoria. As major users of these areas, continuing to develop the relationship between paddlers and Parks Victoria is becoming more important, and will ultimately benefit both parties in the long term. The Strategic Forum this year aims to enable:
• Discussion between clubs and Parks Victoria on the process of applying for event permits.
• Water access for paddlers, ramps and pontoons, disabled access down to water level. Designated disabled parking near water access. How could a club help Parks Victoria develop the infrastructure?
• Recognising Parks Victoria and Canoe Clubs are partners in providing a healthy lifestyle experience for all Victorians.
In order to facilitate meaningful discussion, there will be a number of Parks Victoria attendees on the day. These attendees include:
Phil Ross – District Manager – North East Melbourne
Brendan Sullivan – Area Chief Ranger – Lower Yarra
Nicole Hendry – Event Booking Coordinator
In addition, we will also have Amanda Jane Reynolds, silver medalist at the recent Rio Paralympics, to give a presentation. Amanda Jane will talk on her experience of ascendancy through her initial support through the club system and moving through the Australian Canoeing high performance program. In the last three years, AJ has also achieved bronze, gold and silver medals at the World Para Canoe Championships. We are very excited to hear from Amanda Jane and are looking forward to the 2016 Strategic Forum.
The Strategic Forum will commence after the AGM at 1pm, with a break for a delicious light lunch
