2017 Victorian Canoe Marathon Championships

The 2017 Vic Marathon Champs were held on the weekend at Geelong.  Thank you to all the volunteers, paddlers, supporters and spectators who contributed to the success of the event.

We were fortunate to have great weather, an excellent course and tight racing, with 165 paddlers competing over the two days.

The Vic Champs weekend was the culmination of the 2016/17 Victorian Summer Race Series, of nine races (not including the Champs), over seven venues across the state, providing a combination of long lap, circuit and point-to-point races.  We had great participation at some races, and disappointing participation at others.  The organizers of all these races put in an incredible amount of effort to hold the events; please support the events if you want them to continue and the sport to grow.

The Summer Race Series is summarized below.  All the results are available on the Canoeing Victoria website, as are the preliminary results for the Vic Champs.  Race photos for the Vic Champs and many of the preceding events (thank you very much to Dean Jones, Tony Bond and others who have taken the time to record the events), along with aerial video of the Frank Harrison Race, are available on Facebook.

The next major event is the Australian Marathon Championships in Sydney on 11th and 12th March.  The Victorian Marathon Winter Series starts on 6th May in Warrnambool, but there are plenty of races in between.  See the 2017 race calendar and Marathon Diary on the Canoeing Victoria website for more information.

Keep paddling
