Over the past two decades, many of Australia’s best flat water sprint paddlers have had an involvement in surf lifesaving ski paddling (eg members of the Avoca Kayak Club). The Victorian Surf Sports Academy was established in 2017 to support surf sports athletes from any Victorian club to achieve their goals. Our ski paddlers are highly motivated to perform at the highest level in flat water sprint paddling and as such have established a new training squad operating from the Fairfield Canoe Club (FCC) boat ramp.

The squad is open to paddlers (kayak or canoe) from any surf or canoe club (you do not have to be involved in surf lifesaving). There is a strict non-poaching policy meaning no athlete will be approached by other athletes or coaches regarding club transfer. There is no cost for the sessions.

The sessions are coached by Dave Ceddia and Jon Ford who have both represented Australia in flat water sprint and/or marathon world championships. A dedicated coaching panel (Jon Ford, Peter Gargiulo, Cameron McGill, Jamo Porter, Ant Orwin, Dave Ceddia, Kevin Ball and Aaron Hamill) are responsible for developing our approach to technique as well as the training schedule to help you to become the best paddler you can be.
