Slalom Yarra Series Race 2 Results

Finns Reserve, Templestowe

Fantastic weather and high participation levels made for a great day at the second Yarra Series for 2014. Despite the low water level, athletes raced hard for age group titles on a challenging course designed by Joseph Robinson of the Melbourne Canoe Club.

In the Open Men’s K1 category, three-time Olympian Warwick Draper was pushed hard by rising star Al Anderson with only 0.03 seconds separating the them. In the Junior Men’s, Tristan Carter showed his dominance by winning C1 and K1 despite still being in the Under 16 category. In the Open women’s, Dita Pahl dominated the K1 event, but was narrowly upstaged by Junior, Eliza Singleton in the C1 class. In the Junior Women’s K1 event, Eliza Singleton was again at the top of the list, followed closely by Freya Wrigley, with Georgie Tonkin from the under 16 category showing her speed amongst the fastest juniors. There were also some standout performances from paddlers in the 10 to 14 years age groups, with a number of new competitors in these events.
