Victorian Senior, U23 and Junior paddlers contend in Wildwater Canoeing World Championships

There were three Victorian paddlers who raced in the ICF Junior and Under 23 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships recently in the USA.

Junior paddlers Lachlan Bassett and Sam Grant fought hard in their C2 event, finishing 5th place in their Individual Sprint Semi-finals, progressing straight through to the Final where they placed 6th.

Maddie Batters raced in U23 K1, qualifying as the 10th fastest boat for the final, where she finished 11th in the Individual Classic event. Batters also joined two interstate paddlers Demi O’Brien and Genie Collin to compete in the Team Classic Race, finishing 7th.

In the ICF Wildwater Canoeing Sprint World Championships Victorians Jaxon Merritt finished 47th in the qualifying round amongst a hotly contested field of paddlers, unfortunately missing out on the semi-finals.

Congratulations to all the athletes who competed overseas and trained hard in the months leading up to these events.
