Victorian Success at 2015 ICF Sprint Junior and U23 World Championships

The 2015 ICF Sprint Junior and Under 23 World Championships saw two Victorian Paddlers compete with commendable results.

Oliver James of Ivanhoe Northcote Canoe Club raced in the Junior Men’s K1 1000m and 200m events. James placed seventh in the Junior K1 1000 A final after racing well in the heat and semi-final events. James backed up this impressive effort with his 200m event, finishing fifth in his K1 200m heat to advance to the semi-finals where he placed seventh, missing out on a spot in the final by 1.481 seconds.  James has another year of paddling at the junior level and Australian Canoeing has commented he “will be one to watch in the coming years.”

Rebecca Mann from Bendigo Canoe Club raced as part of the Women’s Under 23 K4 500m crew. Joined by South Australian paddlers Cat McArthur, Brianna Massie and Western Australian paddler Shannon Reynolds the quartet finished sixth in the A final. They were the highest place non-European boat and finished only 3.09 seconds behind Germany who won gold.

Congratulations to all the paddlers for their achievements and who trained hard in the time leading up to this event.
