Victorians take on the gregory river marathon.

Victorian paddlers from Footscray Canoe Club Annette Boath, Stewart Nicol and Adele J Walker competed in the Gregory River Canoe Race in North Queensland.

The race is a 42km marathon consisting of long deep water holes separated by sets of rapids and fast flowing bends. The conditions of the race were very challenging for the Victorian competitors as they were from a marathon paddling background and had not experienced rapids of this level before.

The Footscray paddlers took on the challenge with a sense of enthusiasm and determination and did their best when faced with challenging conditions. Adele and Stew both completed the event, unfortunately Annette had an incident at a rapid 5km before the finish. Annette lost her seat due to the incident and had a broken rudder so was unable to make it to the finish.

Congratulations to Annette, Stewart and Adele on taking on the Gregory River Canoe Race. Hopefully this encourages more Victorians to race this iconic event in the future.
