Victorian Leanne Guinea won gold in the women’s C1 event at the slalom worlds in La Seu d’Urgell. Rosalyn Lawrence and Jessica Fox made it a clean sweep for Australia

 

Australia produced a clean sweep in the women’s C1 event at the canoe slalom world championships to finish the world championships on a high.

Leanne Guinea lead the way with a total score of 137.80 a massive improvement on her semi final score which saw the Victorian languishing in 7th place.

Rosalyn Lawrence also improved dramatically from the semi final producing a clean run and finishing with a total of 143.10. Jess Fox completed the Aussie hatrick with a total of 145.41, a ten second improvement on her semi final score.

Having accepted C1 women as a demonstration event in 2009, the ICF Board are expected to confer official status for the 2010 world championships following the successful participation of 22 athletes from 13 nations in La Seu d’Urgell.

"I’ll definitiely be aiming to win gold again once it becomes offical" said Guinea who has been in Europe since early June training and racing.

Earlier, Sarah Grant and Kate Lawrence each had disappointment finishing 19th and 20th in the K1W semi final victims of 50 second penalties.
