While this event is termed a Wildwater event it could be equally considered a Downriver event.  The course is a fast-flowing river with a few short sections of Grade 1/2 rapids – so a “mild” Whitewater event.

Objectives of the event:

  1. Provide the opportunity for any and all paddlers to be introduced to and experience wildwater racing
  2. Recognise the best performing Australian Wildwater athletes by ICF age and boat class and in team events.
  3. Recognise the best performing general class paddlers by age, class and event.
  4. Encourage athletes of all ages to participate, including masters, open age, U23 & juniors.

Program Format:

Classic Racing: from pondage weir ramp through Blue Gums rapid and around bend.
Approx (3km) – 1 run
Sprint Racing: from below “pumpkins” through Blue Gums rapid and around bend|
Approx (400m) – best of 2 runs

Classic team racing will be scheduled for Wednesday afternoon once Sprint racing is finished if time and numbers permit. Sprint team racing may be added if time permits.

Mandatory Safety Equipment:  PFD, helmet, footwear, boat buoyancy for enclosed hulls.
Safety: safety boats/personnel will be on hand at rapids.
First Aid:  will be based at OEG camp and at end of racecourse.
Briefing: At the Event Office at OEG camp, Back Eildon Road, Eildon
– Handheld timing will be used.  Medal presentations at the end of each day.
