It has been another exciting month at Paddle Australia, as the countdown continues to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and our domestic season draws to a very busy close.
Our Canoe Polo community came together in Canberra for the 2024 Canoe Polo National Championships over the Easter long weekend. More than 140 athletes from across the country travelled to the nation’s capital for the three-day competition. Many thanks to the hard-working committee and volunteers that planned and delivered the event. Congratulations to Queensland who took out both the Open Women’s and Open Men’s categories. South Australia hosted the 2024 Canoe Marathon and SUP Championships at the beginning of April. A massive thank you to Paddle South Australia, as well as the SUP and Marathon Discipline Technical Committees for all their work in helping to make this event a huge success. The Canoe Slalom domestic season culminated with the hosting of the 2024 Canoe Slalom National Championships at Bradys Lake in Tasmania. Congratulations to our Australian Olympic team members Tim Anderson (K1) and Tristan Carter (C1) who were crowned men’s national champions, while 2023 Team World Champion Kate Eckhardt taking out the women’s K1 and C1 crowns. As our domestic season comes to a close, I’d like to say thank you to all the volunteers, officials, committees and staff who have worked tirelessly to bring to life another amazing competition season. Without your hard work, dedication and commitment, our competitions and events would not be possible…so thank you!
We were also excited to see three of our athletes announced as the first members of the Australian Paralympic Team for Paris 2024. A massive congratulations to Curtis McGrath, Dylan Littlehales and Susan Seipel, who have all been selected to represent Australia at a third Paralympics in August – a massive achievement.
Before they jet off to all corners of the globe, our Olympic and Paralympic #OneTeam came together on the Gold Coast to celebrate their achievements ahead of Paris 2024. It was wonderful to bring together our athletes, their loved ones and members of our Board and staff to wish them good luck and farewell for the next few months before the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
