Marathon paddling update

Dear paddlers,

The purpose of this note is to update you on the plans to return to competitive marathon paddling in Victoria.

As you are probably aware the Victorian Government allowed the return to sport under certain conditions on 22nd June.

Currently those restrictions limit non-contact sport such as paddling to 20 people or less and, in some locations considered to be public spaces, the limit is 10 people or less.

This means at the moment we are not yet able to restart the Marathon Winter Series.

The PV Marathon committee remains in contact with the regulatory bodies that issue our race permits and we continue to work with them to be ready to restart races as soon as we are allowed to do so.

At this stage we hope to be able to restart racing on Sunday, 16th August for Winter Series 5 and we shall keep you informed as to progress towards that goal.  The venue for that race is still being determined.

We are also working on WS6, to be held on Sunday, 6th September and the Echuca Mini, to be held on Saturday, 10th October.  WS6, which was originally scheduled to be held in Wodonga will now be held in or around Melbourne.

We encourage all paddlers to keep active in the meantime and we look forward to meeting you on a river somewhere before too long.

John Young
On behalf of the PV Marathon committee
